The term was coined by Dr. Colin Irving in an article in the medical journal Medical Journal in 1839 to describe the condition which drove Sir Ryan Francis insane. Sir Ryan Francis was the first editor in chief of the gossip rag Better Than Sliced Bread from 1800-1839.
You know you’ve got a bad case of edititis when you start correcting a form that you’re filling out. I’ve done this. I’m not proud, but the mistakes in the form were really bugging me.
I want to edit “Sir” when I see it in front of “Ryan Francis”. Am I afflicted with edititis? Well, I am, but surely that’s not a sign of it.
This Sir Ryan Irving sounds to have suffered from a tragic affliction and in memory of him helping recognize this suffering in our society we should spend one day a year, maybe even month, celebrating his life. I suggest a rolling friday celebration involving bitter beer and jalapeno poppers…..just a thought
